Put 1,200 people in Laurel Manor’s biggest ballroom and one of them is six-foot-six, and he has spent his life being told, kindly, that they can order something. He is used to the suit that fits nowhere: a jacket that ends at his hips, sleeves that stop above the wrist bone, trousers that were long enough only after the cuff came out. He has never tried on three suits that fit and chosen between them. That’s what a rack that runs to 70 long is for.
What long means
A long isn’t a regular with more hem. The jacket is longer in the body, the sleeve is longer, the button stands lower, the trouser rise is deeper. On a man built for it the proportions come out right without a tailor performing surgery, and the difference is visible from the back of a ballroom.
The choice he’s never had
His size on the rack in more than one tier, Everyday Classic at $139 to $159 up through half-canvassed at $300 to $500, and a consultant who isn’t on commission to walk him through them. For once he picks by the occasion, and not by what happens to exist.
Then the small things
Even a 70 long gets a hem, and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, pins it to the shoes he brings. Small jobs he can often do while you wait, and for a man who has always waited weeks for a suit, that’s the part he won’t believe.
