Franklin High School has stood on Joy Road since 1961, with about 1,300 students in it, and a father with three sons spaced two years apart will sit in its ceremony three times in six years. Three photographs, six years apart at the ends. The temptation is a cheap suit for the first one and see what happens. The better buy is one suit that looks the same in all three pictures.
Why one suit
Because the photographs go on the same wall. A father who looks the same in each one, in the same navy suit, gives the three of them a through-line; a father in three different suits looks like three different men. Buy the suit for the wall.
Which suit lasts six Junes
Half-canvassed, $300 to $500. The canvas holds the chest through six years of hangers and the cloth takes the wear. Navy, plain, a lapel of ordinary width, nothing that dates. The consultant will say if the middle tier does it; for six years and three sons, this is where the money is justified.
The body changes; the suit follows
Six years moves a waist. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, lets out or takes in between ceremonies, and small jobs he can often do while you wait. Bring it in each May with the shoes, and it goes back on the wall looking like the first time.
