Henry Ford Rochester Hospital is a teaching hospital, and some of the people learning in it came up through Wayne State. A resident’s relationship with a suit is unlike anyone else’s in this town. He owns exactly one. He wears it perhaps four times a year. And each of those four is a day that matters more than most people’s whole month.
The four days
An interview for the next post. A conference where he presents. A wedding, usually a classmate’s. And a funeral, because of the work. One navy suit covers all four, which is lucky, because the schedule that produced them will never allow a second shopping trip.
Buy it once, properly
The argument for spending here isn’t vanity, it’s arithmetic: a suit worn four times a year for six years is worn twenty-four times, and Signature Wool, $259 to $299, will still be closing cleanly at the end of that. It also survives being packed, which the four days tend to require.
The part residents get wrong
The shirt. One suit and one shirt means the shirt is doing half the work and is usually the thing that was bought fastest. Buy two, in the collar size measured rather than guessed, and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, sets the jacket sleeve to their cuff.
