Oakland Community College’s Royal Oak campus is downtown, and its Culinary Studies Institute at Main and East Seventh opened in 2025 with a student-run restaurant inside. Its graduates walk out of the ceremony and into interviews, often the same week.
The fit, not the label
The first-job suit has one job: to look like it belongs on you. That means the fit, not the label. We stock 34 short to 70 long, and a consultant measures you on the floor. Then Roman at Lincoln Tailor, inside the store, sets the sleeve, the waist and the hem. Basic alterations are often done the same day, depending on the garment and current workload.
Straight talk on money
On money, we will be straight because nobody here is on commission. Everyday Classics, $139 to $159, are durable blends that hold a press through a week of interviews and a summer of them. Signature Wool, $259 to $299, is real wool you will still be wearing at the second job. You’ll find both on the rack.
Navy first, charcoal second
If you only buy one, make it navy. Wear it with a white shirt, a plain tie and shoes that have seen polish, and it’ll work for a first interview in a kitchen or a front office anywhere in Oakland County. Charcoal can be the second suit.
The store is one stretch of I-696 from campus: west to Greenfield, then just south. Open Sunday afternoons if the ceremony was Saturday.
