Southfield’s summer concert series happens at the gazebo in Burgh Historical Park, Tuesday evenings, and the audience is on lawn chairs in the last of the heat. A man who wants to look like he made an effort has one problem to solve, and it isn’t the color. It’s the lining.
What unlined means
A fully lined jacket carries a second layer of cloth inside it, which is fine in a conference room and misery on grass in July. An unlined or half-lined jacket in a light cloth weighs far less and lets air through. Ask the consultant what is on the rack for a warm evening; it changes with the season.
How to wear it
A soft shirt with the collar open, trousers in cotton or a lightweight wool, and a loafer without a sock in sight. No tie. A pocket square if you like one. The jacket does the work of making it an evening rather than a Tuesday.
The fit is looser, on purpose
An unlined jacket is meant to hang, not to hug. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, sets the sleeve and leaves the body alone. Come by after work.
