West Bloomfield has two dozen lakes and nearly 600 acres of parks, and its weddings follow the shoreline to the clubs on Pine Lake and Middle Straits Lake. Dressing a party for the water means choosing a cloth for a month by a lake. Pick by color alone and you’ve skipped the harder question.
June to August
July by a lake is humid until the sun’s off the water, and a heavy cloth is heavier for it. A lighter wool in a mid blue or a light gray. Leave black to the tuxedos.
September and October
The lakes are at their best and the evenings are cool. This is the season for a cloth with some weight, a navy or a deeper gray that drapes in the wind instead of flapping. If it’s the suit he’ll keep, go half-canvassed, $300 to $500: the weight is the cloth’s, and the construction is what holds the shape for years.
Bring the date
The consultant picks the cloth for the month, and if the party’s with you the whole order is cut from it; ask about group pricing for parties of five or more. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, sets the hems.
