If a card from Pine Lake Country Club or Bay Pointe arrives with black tie on it, that’s a tuxedo, not a dark suit. The only question left is whether to rent one for the night or own one for the years.
What the card means
A black or midnight tuxedo, a white shirt, a bow tie, black shoes. Black tie optional means a dark suit is allowed; plain black tie doesn’t. If the card is unclear, dress to the stricter reading. Nobody at a gala remembers the man in the tuxedo. Everyone remembers the one without.
Rent it
For one evening, a rental fitted in person is the right answer. It’s chosen on our floor, sized to you, hemmed to your shoes, and it goes back. Fitted properly, it photographs like a purchase.
Own it
If the cards come every season, own one. A tuxedo fitted to you once by Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, is the one thing about the next gala you won’t have to think about, which is the point of black tie.
