At Pine Lake Country Club the father of the bride has two moments when every one of up to 280 guests is looking at him: the walk in with his daughter at the water, and the toast. He’s in more photographs than the best man, and he’s usually the last man anyone thinks to dress.
The walk
A walk is shoulders and trousers. If the jacket fits through the shoulder it moves with him; if it doesn’t, it lifts at the collar with every step and the photographs catch it. Trousers with a proper rise don’t bunch on the walk down to the water. Neither of those is expensive. Both are about a suit cut to his shape, not a younger man’s.
The toast
A toast is a buttoned jacket and a collar. The jacket has to close without pulling, standing, glass in hand, for five minutes while a room looks at him. That’s the one place the half-canvassed tier, $300 to $500, earns its price: the chest holds its line instead of creasing across the button.
Why he owns it
He’ll wear this suit to the rehearsal dinner, the wedding, the next family wedding and a hundred dinners after. A rental would be the wrong economy. The rack runs 34 short to 70 long, portly included, at the same price as every other size, so he’s fitted from stock, and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, pins him the same afternoon as the party.
